Deluxe VR F-14 Fighter Jet

Role: Senior UI Designer

Immersive User Interface Design, controls and display for VR

Designed Deluxe Digital’s first VR’s immersive experience of the F-14 Tomcat fighter jet. Deluxe debuted their new VR prowess with this product demo at the 2016 annual NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) show in Las Vegas, NV.

This was my first time designing for VR. My process was designing the UI in Adobe Illustrator, then importing the vectors into Unity as simple 3D extruded objects. Unlike designing for traditional digital platforms, I learned while testing my UI in a HTC Vive that VR required larger and more spaced apart design. As if designing expressly for accessibility, this project turned out to be a great learning experience with a talented technical team of 3D, Unity, and VR specialists.

Example of play pause and rewind UI controls. I also designed the floating interactive table with wraparound feedback displaying a HUD with details of the F-14 fighter jet.

The interactive table displays 3D topography as the Tomcat flies.
